Windows Movie Maker

This is another cool way of taking a boring powerslide and making it into a movie. The only downfall was how long the Powerslide took to upload to Windows Movie Maker. Other than that, it was fairly easy to figure out.

Video Response

This short video by Dan Brown called An Open Letter to Educators really made me think. Dan feels that Institutional Education needs to do more than adopt a few tools in the classroom. For example, students show up for class, textbooks are never used and the professor stands in front of the classroom using a Powerpoint that teaches modern day facts. You are then tested on these "facts" and a grade is given. Dan feels that Institutional Education needs to do more to empower  students to broaden their horizon. I feel that college should be integrating technology, promoting higher level thinking so students are able to apply that in real life situations. I agree with Dan that a strong education isn't important, it is essential. If I had to attend classes where the professor taught to the back wall, I would never grasp the full value of that class. I need to be challenged and be able to expand and apply my experience beyond the classroom. This technology course has been an amazing resource for me. It has pushed me beyond limits I didn't know existed! I don't agree with Dan for dropping out of college but I do feel that he is right that colleges need to move beyond lecturing and be there as a guide to help students learn by doing.

Tiny cc

How cool! In Tiny cc, I typed in http://rnewkirk.blogspot.com & pushed the button tiny to shorten my URL to look like this http://tiny.cc/g0ypk . Extremely easy and a good tool to use when needing to cut down space and look organized! The ISTE NETS standard that this relates to is #3-Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Specifically: teachers demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations.

Google Form

I thought this tool was very easy to use. I decided to make a form about Parents' attitudes toward reading. I feel that it is important for me to have an understanding of a parents' view on their childs reading. Check out my form. I had one parent fill out my survey. How interesting that was! Check out the results! I think the easiest way to get quick and instant results is by emailing parents, students and co-workers when creating a google form. The ISTE NETS standard that closely relates to this activity is Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments. Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS.

Jeopardy

I loved this activity! We had to make a presentation on something that we would introduce or review in the classroom. We had to make it using a Jeopardy template coming up with our own categories, questions and answers. There are so many skills you could use with this game. At first, I thought about using the chapter book we are reading with the category being a chapter & asking 5 questions from each category. Then, I realized I didn't have anything that I could use as a review for grammar. So I centered it around the skills that were taught this past nine weeks. Check it out
